Measurements of the apparent brightness - redshift relation of supernova "standard candles" have been used as evidence for accelerated cosmological expansion and for the existence of a mysterious "dark energy" which pervades the universe. However these observations could equally well be caused by a large spherical underdensity at the center which we sit. Such an "anthrocentric" model should be seen as anti-Copernican - but does it work? I describe the model and discuss whether it is viable in the face of the rich body of evidence for the standard cosmological model. It is shown how one can use limits on deviation of spectrum of the cosmic microwave background from blackbody to put severe constraints these models.
