The Hubble Space Telescope - Innovation in Space and How It Works

Ed Cheng (Nasa/Goddard)

2:30pm Monday February 8 in Curia II

I will touch on the range of scientific output from the Hubble Space Telescope and then move to a description of how the HST Project accomplishes the tasks that make these discoveries possible. I will describe the HST itself, how we got to where we are, and where we may be going from here. I will highlight the benefits that on-orbit servicing by astronauts has brought to this project. In particular, it allows us to take risks that ultimately lower program costs and improve scientific productivity.
